Medical Ministry

Many times each year WBM pays for medical services performed in other countries or sponsors individuals to travel to the United States for medical help. Plastic surgery, cornea transplants, retina re-attachment, kidney stones, leg surgery, hysterectomy, and many other medical procedures have been done under the WBM medical ministry. Tons of medical equipment and supplies have been collected and distributed to needy countries by WBM.

In 1991 Edis Montes was burned from the waist up in a fire in her home. Her arm was literally melted to her side. Her doctor insisted on removing her arm as he said: "You will never even be able to use it to beg." She refused to allow it to be amputated explaining that "GOD will heal me and my arm." HE DID!

He did so through WBM and a visit to Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta where her arm was reconstructed. Today she speaks fluent English, proclaims God's awesome healing power everywhere she goes, and is God's beacon of love and hope for all who meet or hear her. Her medical care was arranged with her transportation and lodging provided by WBM.

UPDATE
November 2004

Many years, and tens of other Medical Program recipients, have passed through the WBM Medical Assistance Program (MAP) since Edis became our first medical help recipient.  Now, Hospital Bautista provides much of the care needed by more than 140 patients each day, who come for medical attention.  Three staff doctors, nurses, helpers, office personnel, lab technicians, radiology techs, and numerous other paid and volunteer staff members care for the medical and spiritual needs of more than 35,000 patients annually.  However, the need for special procedures, which can not be done in Honduras, still require patients to travel to the United States for their medical needs to be met under MAP.

This man, Francisco, was severely injured in a bus accident near Guaimaca in November 2003.  After being treated at Hospital Esquela in Tegucigalpa, he was sent home with a broken leg, the need for extensive knee repairs/replacement, and the need for skin grafting.  MAP will soon be flying him to the States for the medical care required for him to soon be able to walk again, and return to work to support his wife and family.  He is a Christian, and a member of WBM's church in San Marcos, a small mountain town more than an hour south of Guaimaca.

MAP is a very expensive, but important, part of the WBM ministry.  Your prayers and financial support are essential for WBM to be able to offer special care to individuals who could never afford to have their medical needs met.  The Continental Airlines Careforce program often provides free tickets for patients and a family member to fly to the States.  If you fly Continental Airlines, have a Continental One Pass account, and wish to donate your accumulated miles to Careforce to help MAP recipients, please give us a call.  Your donated miles could save a life.
